Within the Regional Operating Plan (POR) Liguria - FESR 2009 - 2013 AXIS 3 Urban Development the Municipality of La Spezia carried out 2 Integrated Projects, funded partly by the Region with money coming from CEE and partly with its own money:

1     The project "QUARTIERI COSTIERI DEL LEVANTE" (East Coastal Areas);

2     The project "CENTRO CITTA'" (City Centre).

The 2 projects are realized in a series of "Single Interventions" with the realization of single projects integrated one another all referred to a specific urban area (Areas of Canaletto, of Fossamastra and following until Muggiano area for the project "QUARTIERI COSTIERI DEL LEVANTE" and city centre area from Viale Aldo Ferrari to Ospedale for the project "CENTRO CITTA'") all aiming at improving the urban area liveability, at reducing air pollution, at improving the road networks within the areas.

Within the two projects two single interventions have been entrusted to ATC S.p.A.:

Project "QUARTIERI COSTIERI DEL LEVANTE" intervention 1.2c:
"Strengthening of trolleybus line through the use of low impact vehicles (trolleybuses and bimodal means) and enlargement of the urban trolleybus line, integrated to info-mobility systems".

Project "CENTRO CITTA'" intervention 1.2b:
"Strengthening of the Trolleybus system through the use of low impact vehicles (trolleybuses and bimodal means), integrated to info-mobility systems".

Within the first intervention 1.2c the project that ATC S.p.A. undertook to carry out consists of :

1) strengthening of the electric service through purchase of new generation vehicles, with high technology content, with electric motorization (trolleybuses) and bimodal motorization, that is electric and diesel, ( bimodal trolleybuses);
2) strengthening of the electric service through enlargement of the urban trolleybus network along the connecting way to the Municipality of Lerici from the area of Canaletto up to the new productive basin of Fossamastra;
3) strengthening of info-mobility instruments through the layout of a AVM/SAE system (Automatic Vehicle Monitoring) integrated to innovative communication systems with customers (like "intelligent targets") in order to realize, with the highest technological level, the control and management of transport service in La Spezia.

Within the second intervention 1.2b the project that ATC S.p.A. undertook to realize consists of:
1) strengthening of the electric service through purchase of new generation vehicles, with high technology content, with electric motorization (trolleybuses) and bimodal motorization, that is electric and diesel, ( bimodal trolleybuses);
2) strengthening of info-mobility instruments through the layout of a AVM/SAE system (Automatic Vehicle Monitoring) integrated to innovative communication systems with customers (like "intelligent targets") in order to realize, with the highest technological level, the control and management of transport service in La Spezia.

The two interventions will be funded by the Region and co-funded by ATC S.p.A.:

1) Project "QUARTIERI COSTIERI DEL LEVANTE" regional funding through POR ASSE 3 URBANO 960,000, co-funding ATC 540,000, for a total funding of 1,500,000;
2) project "CENTRO CITTA'" regional funding through POR ASSE 3 URBANO 2,208,000, co-funding ATC 852,000, for a total funding of 3,060,000.

At present by 30.06.2009 ATC has presented the preliminary project of the intervention 1.2c within the project "QUARTIERI COSTIERI DEL LEVANTE", and by 30.10.2009 has analogously presented the preliminary project of the intervention 1.2B within the project "CENTRO CITTA'".

The LIGURIA REGION has formally approved the preliminary project of the intervention 1.2b for the Centre, setting the up-to-date timing for the realization of the intervention, while this hasn't happened yet for intervention n 1.2c for the East.
