"Speziainbici" (Spezia-by-bicycle) service is an innovative automatic system for public bicycle rental, an important instrument to promote a real bicycle culture in the city by encouraging its use for active daily transfers: home-work place, home-study place, shopping.

“Speziainbici” allows all citizens, resident or commuting citizens, tourists or occasional visitors, to take the bicycle from a distribution station and to hand it back in another station that can also be different and located in another part of the city than the taking station, like traditional public transport.

The aim is that of promoting and encouraging a radical achievement of the bicycle use for urban, short-range transfers so that it can become alternative/competitive with respect to private car use, thus obtaining benefits for air quality and also life quality, due to reduction of exhaust gas pollution, noise, stress, as well as an improvement of accessibility/availability of urban areas and overall safety conditions of the City.

Moreover, because of the morphological conformation of the city, (which concentrates 80% of population and all services and workplaces in the almost flat area), and of climatic conditions that guarantee mild temperatures most of the year, we can state that La Spezia has all features to become a "cycle city" in every respect.

Stations where you can take a bicycle, thanks to an electronic card, are located in 12 points of the city.
